Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting behind a Dunkin' Donuts in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a potential self-defense shooting during an armed robbery at a Dunkin' store in Mayfair.

Officers responded to the 6400 block of East Roosevelt Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. for a report of a robbery in progress.

The manager at the Dunkin' tells Action News that two armed men came in to rob the store and the customers inside.

The incident spilled outside, and the manager says, an armed customer fired shots, killing one of the alleged robbers.

The second robber was able to get away.

Police found the man who was fatally shot in an alleyway behind the 2600 block of Elbridge Street.

Ludymilla Paula woke up to police officers knocking at her door.

"The cops came to my door and told me not to open the back door because there was a crime scene," she said.

Police gathered bullet casings and money, that was scattered on the ground, into evidence.

"I couldn't imagine this happening at my house. Never before, I've lived here for so long. The guy's just dead at my door," said Paula.

She went on to say she is grateful she didn't enter into the crosshairs right in her own driveway.

"I was supposed to be leaving for work the same time the guy was here. I don't know if God planned that, I just changed my mind yesterday to park in the front. I'm glad I did," said Paula.

The name of the man killed has not been released.

Police have not announced any charges in this case.
