Woman found dead in Frankford apartment, police investigating

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are on the lookout for the suspect who stabbed a 21-year-old woman to death and hid her body in a futon in Frankford.

Police sources told Action News detectives have a warrant out for a person of interest, and they're searching for the vehicle the victim would drive.

The investigation began Saturday when the victim's friends filed a missing persons report. They told police they hadn't heard from the victim since Wednesday, and when they went to check on her, they found blood in her apartment.

"Absolutely devastating her being so young and just moving into the neighborhood," said Angel Cardona, who owns David's Furniture and Bedding in the area.

Angel Cardona said he saw the police activity outside his furniture store on the 4400 block of Frankford Avenue on Saturday morning.

"I just kept thinking of her because she had recently reached out to me last Sunday in regards to a bed frame she wanted to purchase because she had purchased furniture from me before," said Cardona.

Cardona said it was heartbreaking when he called the victim, but she did not answer.

Police said when officers responded to the victim's apartment, they found her wrapped in a sheet and shower curtain. She had burn marks, several stab wounds to her neck and torso, and a flat iron cord around her neck.

"It's a shame," said Cardona. "It's unfortunate, but crime rate is ridiculous and it's just heartbreaking. Prayers go out to her family and everyone she knew."

"It's sad," said Marcellus Rivera from North Philadelphia. "I wish I could be surprised, but given this day and age and the way the world is today."

Residents hope surveillance video will help bring the suspect to justice.

"I just hope they find 'em quick so it doesn't happen to anyone else," said Rivera. "I have daughters, ya know. So, it makes me think of them first. I don't want that happening to them."

Police said no weapon was recovered and no arrests have been made.
