SHAMONG TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A wildfire burning in Burlington County, New Jersey, has grown in size.

It's happening near the Carranza Memorial Historic Site in the Wharton State Forest in Shamong Twp.

Chopper 6 was over a wildfire in New Jersey's Wharton State Forest on Friday.

The blaze, dubbed the "Mines Spung Wildfire," is 3,250 acres in size and was 30% contained as of Friday night, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.

The Phillip M. Costello Preparatory Academy and the Lower Forge Campground have been evacuated.

As of 11 p.m. Friday, officials said five structures were being threatened.

The following road and trail closures include:

  • The Batona Trail is closed from Coranza Road and Bulldozer Road.

  • Tuckerton Rd closed from Carranza Rd. to Washington Turnpike

  • Carranza Rd from Forked Neck Rd to Tuckerton Rd

  • Bulldozer Rd closed

  • Hampton Rd closed

Officials say the first report of the fire came from a private aircraft flying over the area on Friday morning.

It's not yet known how the fire started.

The Forest Fire Service urges people not to fly drones in the area.

"If you fly, we can't!" officials said in a social media post.
