PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A driver was arrested in Delaware County after a wild police chase that started in West Philadelphia.
Chopper 6 was overhead around 7:15 p.m. Thursday as a person in a white Chevrolet Malibu led Philadelphia officers through city streets.
The driver could be seen speeding past cars, even appearing to hit an SUV during the chase.
The pursuit moved into Upper Darby and then Lansdowne before officers swarmed the vehicle to make an arrest near the 100 block of E. Plumstead Avenue.
Doris Alexander watched everything unfold from her front porch.
"I was very shocked. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Police were everywhere," she recalled.
Chopper 6 was overhead as the driver was taken into custody after a brief altercation with officers.
"When I came to the door, they snatched the guy out the car, beat him up and put him in the car, and took him away," said Alexander.
Philadelphia police tell Action News that officers initially stopped the driver for a motor vehicle violation in the 5300 block of Catherine Street.
Officers pursued the suspect because they saw a firearm inside the car.
Police say the suspect is still being processed, so his name and the charges against him are not yet being released.
