WALLINGFORD, Pa. (WPVI) -- Trees and power lines came down across the area after powerful storms struck overnight.

In Wallingford, Delaware County, schools were forced to close for the day because buses weren't able to get around all the damage.

Crews anticipate being on the scene for several days to clean up the damage.

"This is nuts. Some woman approached me earlier this morning and asked if we had a mini tornado. I said I have no idea," said Ed Hazelwood of Media, Pa.

A team from the National Weather Service examined the scene on Friday and determined the damage was caused by straight-line winds.

"We woke up to a lot of lightning and thunder and hail," said resident Harry Augensen.

A large tree came down onto a street and a house along the 300 block of Colonial Drive in Wallingford.

"Tree branches came down mostly our neighbors' homes, power lines - we have a generator, fortunately," said Augensen.

In Media, Pa., Chopper 6 was over a roof that was peeled back along Front Street. The debris appears to have landed in a tree nearby.

"It was emotional this morning, a lot of damage, somebody's roof looks like an art installation right on top of a tree," said Colleen Hancher of Media.

Jim Nicholson lives in Media but works in Wallingford. He couldn't drive through because of road closures, so he was on foot.

"My house is about three miles away. A lot of wind and lightning as I'm walking through here to work. There are trees down all over the place. I drove around a half an hour trying to get here, couldn't make it, so I'm walking," Nicholson said. "Even that's been hard."

Tree companies got the call around 6 a.m. Friday, and now they're working quickly to clear trees off of houses and cars.

"We're going to have a crane here set up on a house in a minute. All of our guys here, chippers, machinery - see what we can help out," said Dan Flynn, owner of Flynn Tree Services.

No injuries have been reported from the storms.
