BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (WPVI) -- The search continues in a Bucks County community for a peacock that has been roaming around a neighborhood.

When our Action News crew got to Theodore Way and Sandy Ridge Road on Tuesday afternoon, they saw the peacock perched atop the Recupero's home. The family had first seen the bird on Monday night.

Maria Recupero said, "We were in our mudroom inside, and we saw it hanging from our roof."

"I thought it was a vulture or something. I had no idea. But the feathers hung over the gutter that far. So we knew it was something strange," Elayne Recupero added.

On Tuesday, the Recuperos saw a picture of two peacocks posted by Doylestown Township Police. In their post, police said the exotic birds were spotted near the Recupero's neighborhood on Monday. Police called the Pocono Wildlife, based in Stroudsburg, to help.

Sampson Metzgar, the lead avian specialist at the rescue, said, "It's not the first time we've gotten calls about peacocks. This is our first time for that area."

When Metzgar and other representatives from Pocono Wildlife got to the Bucks County neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, they were able to corner and capture one of the peacocks. However, the other bird flew down the street and landed on the Recupero's home.

"I'm surprised we even got one, to be honest. Peacocks are so difficult to catch," Metzgar said.

He went on to explain that, depending on the altitude and conditions, peacocks can fly up to a mile. Metzgar also said the birds are extremely fast runners.

The rescue said they believe the birds are someone's pets, but at this point, they aren't sure the peacocks escaped or were dumped.

Metzgar told Action News that if the owner of the peacocks is looking for them, and they are able to provide proof of ownership, they are happy to return the bird they captured.
