The shooting happened around 6:40 p.m. Thursday at 57th Street and Kingsessing Avenue.

Neighbors tell us the whole thing started because several kids were stomping on a newly paved patch in front of the suspect's house.

They say Holmes and his teenage son confronted the group, and a fight started. At some point, police say Holmes fired a gun, hitting the 13-year-old victim twice in the stomach.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.

On Friday, representatives with Eddie's House, an anti-violence group, went door to door to talk to neighbors about the shooting.

"It's senseless. It's always senseless violence. There's always another way," said Harold Boswell with Eddie's House.

They're hoping to prevent more violence.

"Our main focus is trying to stop the violence in the community. Let them know about the resources out here to help them," said Boswell.

Anyone with information is asked to call or text police at 215-686-TIPS.
