It happened around 12 a.m. Tuesday on the 400 block of Stonybrook Drive in the Levittown section of Bristol Township.
Investigators say it began with a 911 call around midnight, during which the caller said there were several teenage males entering vehicles.
When officers arrived, police say one of the teens fled in a stolen white SUV, but then crashed into the home.
"I come and open the front door and there's just cops everywhere, and then I look to my left and there's a car in my hallway," recalled the resident who didn't want to be identified.
There was 'catastrophic' damage to the home, police said, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Video from Chopper 6 showed a hole punched into the front of the home with debris scattered in the yard.
The white SUV belongs to Lorena Patino's daughter.
"We were so, so surprised that happened to us, especially here. This neighborhood is very calm, very nice," said Lorena Patino, of Levittown.
Patino says thieves also hit a vehicle belonging to another daughter.
Police later returned the items recovered at the scene.
"They said, 'Oh, we have your wallet and more stuff that the kids grabbed from your car," said Patino.
The owner of the house says there's structural and roof damage, a bathroom was obliterated, and the HVAC system may need work as well.
"What are they getting from cars? 30 dollars? And we got tens of thousands of dollars in damage," said the resident of the damaged home.
The 16-year-old suspect was not injured. He was taken into custody without incident.
