Man charged with attempted murder of an officer after firing at cop in Germantown, police say

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer after allegedly firing a shot at a cop in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.

Shahlem Groover, 45, is also charged with assault on law enforcement, aggravated assault and evading arrest.

It all began around 10 p.m. Monday in the 5800 block of Morton Street.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Groover when they discovered his vehicle had expired plates.



During the stop police say Groover drove away.

When police caught up to him in the 300 block of Mechanic Street, they say he ran off.

An officer caught up to him and the two got into a struggle. That's when, police say, Groover fired a shot at the officer but missed.

Police then took Groover into custody and allegedly found narcotics inside his vehicle.

Authorities say no shots were fired by officers.



No injuries were reported.
