Police were called after the car crashed on the 7800 block of Penrose-Ferry Road around 1:42 a.m. Sunday.
Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a concrete pillar.
The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.
A passing Good Samaritan had pulled the driver from the vehicle, but left the scene before police arrived.
The 29-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
