CHESTER, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Chester Police are investigating a shooting at a house party that left a 16-year-old boy dead and 5 others injured on Friday night.

"I just heard the gunshots...I see everybody running."

A teenager who spoke to Action News was just steps away from the party on the 200 block of East 10th Street when there was an exchange of gunfire before 11 p.m.

Police said the 16-year-old boy was killed on the front steps.

"He was the best. He was funny. He was goofy, and he was just somebody we could run to and talk to about everything," said the teen.

Police said 4 more victims were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds - ages 15, 16, 25 and 26. At least one remains in the hospital.

A 21-year-old was grazed and treated at the scene.

Officers also found bullet holes at two apartments on Madison Street and the neighboring home.

Justin said bullets went through his windows and front door while his 5-year-old child and girlfriend were inside.

"They're doing good," said Justin. "My kid doesn't really know what happened. My roommate jumped on top of my kid and held her down, and that was about it until it was over."

Justin said there have been loud parties at that house in the past.

Janniel Jaquez and his mother said they manage the rental house where the shooting happened and did not know about the party.

"We're shocked," said Jaquez. "We couldn't believe it. This never happened to us."

They brought Action News inside the house to get a closer look at the damage. They said they will no longer rent the home.

Down the street, sits Chester's Boys and Girls Club where the violence prevention coordinator, Titus Robinson, helped children cope on Saturday.

"It's more than tragic," said Robinson. "But at the end of the day, it's a learning lesson to do what we need to do to change things in the community to make sure these kids have safe spaces to go to, enjoy themselves and become the young adults and leaders that they need to be moving forward."

Mayor Stefan Roots said in a statement:

"This heartbreaking violence is a painful reminder that we must come together as a community to protect our neighborhoods and our youth. The City of Chester will not stand idle while senseless acts of gun violence rob families of their loved ones. We are committed to supporting our police department in finding those responsible and to investing in the solutions that bring lasting peace to our city."

Robinson said he's also concerned about the amount of time it takes to bring victims to a nearby hospital now that Crozer-Chester Medical Center is no longer open.

Officers recovered two guns at the house, but they're still looking for those responsible. Anyone with information, contact Chester Police.
