Sharrie Williams




Sharrie joined the Action News team in March 2014 as an anchor of the 5:00 pm newscast and reporter on Action News at 11. For more than a decade, Sharrie has immersed herself into the Philadelphia community, uniquely telling stories that matter to residents in the Delaware Valley. She brings journalistic integrity, knowledge, and a commanding but compassionate presence to the news desk. From covering the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, the historic decision by President Joe Biden to drop out of the race for the White House, and the historic Presidential Debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Sharrie's work is rooted in strong reporting. In 2024, Sharrie was awarded "Journalist of the Year' by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
Sharrie has been out front on numerous Big Stories including breaking news of the midair collision between a passenger plane and helicopter in Washington DC, the Northeast Philadelphia plane crash, town halls addressing the scourge of gun violence, the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic, an exclusive interview with Will Smith's mother following an unforgettable night at the Oscars, the Philadelphia Eagles first ever Super Bowl championship and their repeat Championship in 2025, Pope Francis' visit to the World Meeting of Families and an interview with Barbara Walters when she signed off the air for the last time.

Before arriving in Philadelphia, Sharrie was an anchor/reporter at KTVT-TV in Dallas, Texas and WFOR-TV in Miami, Florida. Sharrie's work has also taken her to WBBJ-TV in Tennessee and WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Alabama, where she became the first Black woman to anchor television sports in that market.
Sharrie earned her undergraduate degree in Broadcasting from the University of Tennessee and in the Spring of 2024, Sharrie earned her Master's from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in School and Mental Health Counseling. In addition to being a journalist, Sharrie intends to become a licensed professional counselor to address the growing need for mental health services and advocate for normalizing the importance of mental wellness.
Sharrie enjoys traveling and has journeyed through the Serengeti in Africa, the ruins of Pompeii, Brazil, and the Greek Isles. She loves live music and attending major sporting events. Sharrie's parents are truly her role models as she comes from a close-knit family including three siblings, eight nieces and one nephew. Sharrie is an active volunteer for many community groups and charities, and is passionate about mentoring young girls. One of Sharrie's favorite quotes is from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.- "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
