Gunman fires 11 shots into West Philadelphia car windshield

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 29-year-old woman was shot and killed in Philadelphia on Friday.

Police said shots rang out just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the 5700 block of Ludlow Street.

When they arrived, they found a woman had been shot in the head and chest.

Police found her next to the open driver's side door of a red Hyundai Elantra.

In the backseat, there was an 8-year-old child - who, police said, was not injured.

"When I heard the message from my mom that someone had been shot in the head I got shocked, I got nervous," said Naim Morc, of West Philadelphia.

Investigators said a man dressed in all black, wearing a mask, fired into the driver's side striking the woman multiple times.

"The crime scene consists of a car which has 11 gun shot holes through the front windshield from close range," said Inspector D.F. Pace, of Philadelphia Police.

The woman was rushed to Penn-Presbyterian Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She has been identified as 29-year-old Imani Naim, of Delaware, according to police.

Neighbors say they're upset to learn about the bloodshed on their block.

"I came back at 3 something and I just felt something off like awkward stuff and I was walking past and I saw blood," said Morc.

Police say they were able to recover most of the shell casings from a grassy area nearby.

"We believe that the car may have pulled into that spot possibly to drop off the child at a nearby home," said Pace.

Police are not sure of the relationship between the woman and child.

However, they say the 8-year-old will be questioned about what they might know.

They've since been reunited them with family members. Residents say they are fed up with the gun violence.

"I lost like 10 friends to gun violence, said Morc, adding, "I just want the gun violence to stop."

Police are still working on a possible motive.

As with all homicides in the city, a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for this crime.
